OCBZ Brawl_ D+F vs Ella

My very first brawl for !
Drain+Faucet vs. Ella!
It's a splash page! A splash page with splashes in it! (humor!)

The story:
The pair didn't see any reason to fight Ella, and Ella felt the same way. However, as Ella is very introverted and not generally cheerful, Drain and Faucet took on the challenge of getting her to let go and enjoy herself. After several failed attempts, D+F discovered water, which they had never seen before. Then they discovered a canoe and that if you sit in a canoe and push the water, the canoe moves. Happy day! Ella pointed out they have no oars, so she turned her umbrella into an oar shape. Then Drain pointed out that he had no arms, so he couldn't use an oar, and Faucet pointed out that she has arms, so she didn't need an oar. Once they got the hang of the physics associated with a canoe in a river, it took high speeds, splashing, and Drain plucking a surprised non-distinct fish from the water to finally get Ella to crack a smile. Well, I think it counts as a smile. The side of her mouth...uh, went up a little. MISSION COMPLETE!


I spent a lot of time on this. Um, by my standards anyway. The easiest thing to do was Drain. He was the first one I drew, and he only takes up one layer. Faucet has three, not including the after-images from her spinning arms. Ella has nine. I have to say, she was fun to draw! I've never done hair like that, but I think it turned out pretty! Her checkerboard skirt was a little time-consuming. By far the hardest thing for me to do was Faucet's blue arm. It's just not easy making a flat shape look like it's coming at you and... doing that. I'm still not convinced by it, but I'm out of time. I had also planned to put one of Ella's little demons in the boat, but I forgot. It would have been a little too crowded anyway. Three is a nice number.

Well, wish me luck in the judging! I'll be on vacation probably by the time ~DearMarch uploads his, so I'll have to see it when I get back. I might even be away for the results. I have no idea how long it takes.

Update:
Turns out I won, but not by much! It's almost ridiculous how close it was! I think everything the judge said was justified. ~DearMarch's had a better and more clear conflict, but in this case the judge liked my style enough to give me the win. I also got some good feedback that I will definitely take into consideration in future brawls.
